Van Helsing, directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy and The Mummy Returns), is a trashy but entertaining horror movie.
Gabriel Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) is an outcast equipped with all sorts of James Bond-style weapons to battle nightmarish creatures. On the orders of a secret organisation, he goes to Transylvania and joins Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale), the last descendent of a royal family, to battle Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh).
Horror movie buffs may wonder why Dracula, the most intelligent supernatural creature, embarks on such a complicated plan for ruling the world. He first brings Frankenstein back to life and then uses the monster to revive his offspring by his three brides. Why doesn't he just bite more people?
Ignore the illogical plot and go to see Van Helsing for its special effects, spectacular action scenes and to show mercy to the filmmakers - the film cost a lot of money to make.
