Retiring trainer Ivan Allan can pull off another of his trademark feature-race wins by landing the ATV Cup this afternoon with crack sprinter Special King Prawn. The son of Stewards Cup (Gr 1, 1,200 metres) winner Danetime has quickly settled into his new surroundings in his freshman season, having notched two wins from four starts. The most recent victory, over 1,400 metres (April 25) was a game performance when leading from start to finish. There was a track bias assisting leaders that day but he has shown enough potential to suggest he can beat similar opposition at Sha Tin this afternoon. He is well drawn in gate six, competitively weighted and looks a top chance. One of the main dangers is expected to be Key To Success, who finished second to Special King Prawn over 1,400 metres. He meets that rival on five pounds better terms for a 11/4-length defeat and as a result there is little separating the pair. Patrick Payne will need luck from gate 11 but he is aboard the highest rated runner in the field and deserves respect. It is a strong guide to his chances that Douglas Whyte has opted to ride Wyndam Easy in preference to Key To Success and last-start winner Noble Silence. Wyndam Easy has won three times this season and, although he lost to Key To Success on Derby day, he meets that rival six pounds better off for a half-length margin. He is ideally drawn and has strong each-way claims. David Ferraris-trained Noble Silence (rated 90) notched his first local success earlier this month over the course and distance when beating Class Two opposition. This is a major step up in grade and based on his rating he has more than a little to find. Town Of Fionn has been one of the more progressive sprinters this season, managing to win four races and finish second twice from six starts. He has risen from a rating of 52 to 98 in fine style and leaves the impression the best is yet to come. This is his toughest assignment to date but he has answered most of the questions that have been put to him. He was beaten in his only attempt over 1,400 metres but is a stronger, more furnished galloper now and must be kept safe. Tony Cruz and Felix Coetzee will be hoping California Hawk is able to produce the sort of form he managed when winning on his local debut back in November. He has competed just three times since then, his best result coming when third to Gem Of India over 1,400 metres. He should be suited by the abundance of leaders in this event with the likes of Wyndam Easy and Special King Prawn likely to set a solid tempo and if the early pace is too strong then he looks the most likely to benefit. Able Choice finished 43/4 lengths behind Special King Prawn in fifth last time but meets that rival on 10 pounds better terms this afternoon. That was his first outing in five months, so a fair amount of improvement can be expected. He is well drawn and is a value chance. John Size's Great Delight was beaten more than eight lengths by Special King Prawn at the end of last month and is hard to recommend off that run. His recent form has not been encouraging and for the time being he can be opposed. Size has a better prospect with High Intelligent, who finished 61/2 lengths adrift of Special King Prawn over 1,400 metres on debut. He is open to a fair amount of improvement and the blinkers are off, but it may be advisable to watch the betting with him. Francis Lui Kin-wai-trained Fantasy finished 10th to Special King Prawn and is another that is difficult to vouch for. He hasn't received any relief in the ratings either and should find a few too strong today. It's hard to see Lucky Good Day hitting the frame after trailing in 151/2 lengths behind Figures in the Champions Mile on debut. He strikes easier opposition here but may need more time to settle in. There have been few positives to come out of Oclelet's three local starts and he can be left out of calculations. Tony Millard's Gallant Knight has failed to hit the frame on both attempts over the course and distance and seems a bit short of the class needed to threaten here. This is a tall order for debutant Enriching, after some ordinary work and trials. He has plenty of room for improvement.
