I refer to the article headlined 'US court severs child's link to Chinese parents' (May 14), on the Anna Mae He decision in Memphis, Tennessee.
In this parental custody case, Chinese parents were tricked into giving up their daughter, now five, after putting her temporarily into the care of foster parents.
The Memphis court's ruling on Anna Mae He is an insult to Chinese culture and the long history of Confucian family values.
Is America going to attack another culture as it has done with Muslims? China is now creating millions of middle-class-income families each year and has bought one-third of newly issued US treasury debt in the last 18 months in order that the US can have a huge budget deficit.
Only a few years ago, FBI agents took Elian Gonzalez from his relatives in Miami because then-Attorney General Janet Reno believed it was in his best interest to live with his father in Cuba. And now a Memphis judge thinks that China is a worse place to raise a child than Cuba? Was the judge reading a Time magazine from the 1950s when making his decision?
