JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa
Phuket
Guests have voted with their freshly preened and pampered feet to name JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa the best hotel spa in Asia. Winner of the people's choice award in a Conde Nast Traveller magazine survey, the resort's Mandara Spa - flagship spa of the Marriott group - was also awarded second place in the World's Top 25 category.
The name Mandara refers to an ancient Sanskrit myth about the elixir of immortality and eternal youth. Mandara Spa is considered a sanctuary of nature, where the essential elements of life are cherished. It is also a spa for lovers. Nearly 90 per cent of the therapies are designed for couples, who can enjoy a romantic treatment for two in double rooms complete with double showers.
'When we opened in 2002, we had only five double-treatment rooms,' said Lee Sutton, director of public relations, Thailand, for JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa. 'The concept was to provide a romantic getaway. But we never imagined how popular it would be. The double rooms were always booked out. We couldn't even get clients in for a look. Last December, we opened another five. These too are running to capacity.'
