Students from Queen Elizabeth School and City University of Hong Kong put their information technology skills to use and dominated the Cyberport Website Design Competition, with two CityU squads earning internships at the hi-tech hub in Pokfulam this summer.
More than 400 students, in teams of six or more, entered the competition which began in March. Their challenge was to redevelop the Cyberport website based on the information in the existing one.
Apart from encouraging students to tap into their creativity and come up with hi-tech websites, the organisers also hoped to arouse teenagers' interest in pursuing a career in the IT field.
To help participants develop their skills in building websites, seven workshops and IT training were provided. Secondary school teams were first required to write an essay on how information technology can help to build a better Hong Kong before 10 of the schools were shortlisted to receive the IT training.
Queen Elizabeth School was crowned champion in the secondary section, while La Salle College and SKH Lam Woo Memorial School came second and third respectively.
CityU students were the biggest winners as they took both the champion and first runner-up titles in the tertiary section. Hong Kong Polytechnic University finished third.
The CityU teams have also won opportunities to take up internships with Cyberport this summer.
