Plans to reform the mainland's minimum wage regulations are unfeasible and will be difficult to implement, according to experts.
In March, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security ordered local officials to adjust the minimum wage standard at least every two years and ensure migrant workers were fairly paid.
Ministry officials have been touring the country to drum up support for the changes.
Speaking at a national labour wage conference in the Sichuan capital, Chengdu , on Thursday, Vice-Minister of Labour and Social Security Wang Dongjin urged local officials to implement the regulations.
'Local labour officials must guide enterprises in documenting employees and their workload, as well as look into how employees get the wage they are entitled to,' Mr Wang said. 'Enterprises must be supervised to make sure they implement the minimum wage.'
Mr Wang said employers could now be forced to compensate workers up to five times the amount they owed them.
