Not only will spam not go away in our e-mail, it appears not to want to go away as a Tech Talk question either. I suspect the following question may well represent what many people feel.
Regarding spam, the worst thing the internet spawned, I know that several internet service providers offer spam filtering services for a fee and I'm wondering: I am already paying for using ISP services which include e-mail, so why should I have to pay extra to have spam eliminated?
The ISPs can ensure that spam does not get into their servers and then to us, right? Are ISPs still claiming that there are people who want to receive spam?
I have for a long time suspected that some of my spam comes from spammers who have accessed my ISP's e-mail address list over the past couple of years.
Of course, I have no proof, but just looking at the multiple addressees in some spam messages, it's evident that they aren't randomly made up.
I use Mozilla Thunderbird as an e-mail agent and MailWasher to screen and filter all my mail at the ISP's server, where it is sorted before I choose which messages to download to my PC. It's still time consuming but it works and, best of all, it's free.
