Longtime Hong Kong resident Ted Thomas has returned with tales of his two weeks in Shanghai shooting the movie Ultraviolet. CitySeen reported yesterday that Thomas, a veteran of Hong Kong broadcasting and former Post columnist who now runs his own public relations firm, had a role in the movie. Thomas said he plays a character in the military simply named chief of staff.

'I'm the chief of staff, head of the army, giving, I suppose, authenticity to the hero, to indicate that he's got government support in what he's doing, which is to destroy all blood supplies and those who've been transfused as well,' he said. The movie is about a war in the late 21st century between humans and vampires.

'It's not my sort of movie, to be honest, but it's got this rather glamorous girl, Milla Jovovich.'

Thomas, who has lived in Hong Kong for almost 50 years, took part in scenes shot around the Pearl Oriental TV tower, a Shanghai landmark. He said his last day on the set was the hardest because the cast had to run up a spiral staircase four floors high.
