Updated at 5.45pm: Two sites - which went up for auction on Tuesday - have brought the government $2.9 billion in revenue - an amount far exceeding market expectations, local media reported.
The two lots - in Ma On Shan and Sha Tin - were sold at $2.09 billion and $865 million to Cheung Kong Holdings and K Wah International Holdings, respectively.
The amounts paid for the sites were 73 per cent and 84 per cent higher, respectively, than the reserved price of $1.2 billion for the Ma On Shan site and $469 million for the plot in Sha Tin.
The Ma On Shan site, with an area of about 14,006 square metres, is expected to have an accommodation value of about $2,700 square feet. The Sha Tin plot at Tung Lo Wan Hill Road covers an area of about 10,626 square metres. It is expected to have an accommodation value of about $3,300 square feet.
