Women often get competitive and jealous of each other. Beibei, Lulu and Niuniu have been partners in crime for more than 15 years. What makes their friendship so long-lasting? Lately, Niuniu has been trying to find the answer. Some of her other girlfriends have broken up with their girlfriends. They complain to her that women can turn into enemies easily over a man they all love, or a job they all want. For example, Little Fang was a friend of CC. But after CC introduced Little Fang to her boyfriend, Nick, as a Chinese tutor, Little Fang stole Nick away from her. Jenny was Lucy's best friend. Both applied to American universities and got admission to the same college. But whereas Lucy received her visa, Jenny's application was rejected. Jenny stopped talking to Lucy, as if she'd taken her place. These examples in Niuniu's life make her feel lucky to have long-term girlfriends like Beibei and Lulu. The three are inseparable. The other day, Beibei, Lulu and Niuniu get together at the Red Carpet Club. Niuniu starts talking about the topic of friendships among women. 'I think what makes our friendship so great is that neither Beibei nor you are as pretty as I am,' says Lulu to Niuniu. 'I can't stand girlfriends who are prettier than me. I love the attention from men.' 'Your type of man isn't our type, either,' Niuniu says. 'We don't have to be competitive in that area.' 'It's true that I love bad boys,' Lulu says, 'especially those scruffy artists who are complete failures. You and Beibei like successful men, instead. You often dislike the men I date.' 'So, in that sense, we have no problem with your beauty,' Beibei says. 'Both you and Niuniu are more beautiful than I, but what makes both of you my great friends is that you guys don't know anything about businesses. I don't want girlfriends who are richer than I am or those who steal businesses from me.' As president of the Chichi Entertainment Company, Beibei is rich and dominating. With the money she makes, she can take younger and handsome lovers - as many as she wants. 'So, Niuniu, what makes you feel so good to be with us?' Lulu asks. 'Let me guess,' says Beibei. 'Neither Lulu nor I have studied or lived overseas. We don't have your vision. You're always our expert on things American, especially American men.' Niuniu protests. 'I can't believe good friends are competitive with each other, as well. I thought we had a sense of camaraderie. That's what makes our friendship so great.' Beibei shakes her head. 'Jealousy is women's nature and we're normal women,' she says. 'We can't be too similar. We have to complement each other to make the friendship work.' 'I agree with Beibei,' Lulu says. 'I think in China there are so many women who compete for one position or one man. We have to learn to hate each other or make alliances to survive. We three makes a strong alliance. We help each other, and we don't have to beat each other over something.' 'So, what makes us like each other so much?' Niuniu asks. 'You're a great listener,' Lulu says. 'You're always there for me when I need to talk. As for Beibei, she loves to be our big sister and protect us.' 'I need to be the centre of the attention,' Beibei says. 'You guys like me to play the role. I also want to be in charge.' 'What about you, Niuniu?' asks Lulu. 'You both have many love stories,' says Niuniu. 'I love to hear stories, and they make my life colourful.'
