Veteran politician set to read 2,000-word statement to a Legco panel meeting
Veteran politician Allen Lee Peng-fei will disclose details today of events that led to his abrupt departure from a popular radio talk show.
He is expected to read a 2,000-word statement to the Legco home affairs panel explaining his decision last week to quit as a stand-in host of the Commercial Radio show Teacup in a Storm.
Leung Man-tao, co-host of the programme who met Mr Lee on Monday, said the veteran politician told him he would reveal the details behind his departure at today's meeting. While he would disclose the events that prompted his departure, he would not name those whom he said had exerted pressure on him.
Mr Lee, who has also resigned as a Hong Kong deputy to the National People's Congress, yesterday declined to disclose the contents of his statement.
Leung, director of Commercial Radio's Channel One before joining the talk show, said: 'Mr Lee is determined to testify before the panel, paying no regard to the pressure on him.'
Mr Lee said last Thursday mainland officials had been asking to meet him since he took over as stand-in host of the show three weeks ago following the resignation of Albert Cheng King-hon who left after feeling 'suffocated by political depression'.
