Stamp collectors were left rattled yesterday after riding a tram turned temporary post office to get first-day covers and stamped logos to mark the centenary of Hong Kong Tramways. Daniel Ho Koon-wai (above) was among those upset with the less-than-perfect imprints they received on their new commemorative covers, which were stamped on the tram as it ran to and from Sheung Wan and North Point between 9am and 5pm. 'The logos were not complete because the tram was shaky,' said Mr Ho, who had arrived at Sheung Wan's Western Market tram stop at 6am to make sure he didn't miss out.
'I don't understand why the tram company chose to use a rubber stamp. I wouldn't have minded paying extra money for a better-quality imprint,' said the 49-year-old accountant, who had taken the day off work.
Other collectors voiced similar feelings about the imprint on the five-stamp collection covers featuring the tram's development in Hong Kong.
