A lovesick woman who rang a neighbour's doorbell 16 times over two weeks was yesterday ordered to receive enforced psychiatric treatment for three months.
Chim Yuk-lan, 42, an assistant at a home for the elderly, previously pleaded guilty to 16 charges of disturbing a neighbour without lawful excuse between April 6 and 20.
Principal Magistrate Ian Candy delivered the sentence in the Eastern Court after taking into account a report from a probation officer, a community service assessment and another report on Chim's psychological state.
The court heard that the victim's family called police on April 19 after they saw Chim on their CCTV system, knocking on their security gate and ringing their doorbell for several minutes. The unmarried man lived in the Aberdeen apartment with his mother and sister, in the same building as Chim.
Chim was taken to Aberdeen police station where she told police she was in love with the 43-year-old man. She was released after being given a warning.
However, she rang the door bell again the next day. Chim was asked to stop knocking on the gate, which she did, but continued to wait outside.
