Cadre well suited to tackle unifying task
Liu Yandong's charm offensive goes beyond mere words. She always wears a ready smile - and seemingly a different wardrobe for every occasion.
In the course of two days, she has been seen sporting at least seven different outfits for various public functions.
By just after 3pm yesterday, when she left the Grand Hyatt hotel following her lunch engagement, Ms Liu was already in her third outfit of the day, a brown floral-pattern jacket with a black dress.
Earlier, she looked as fresh as ever as she entered a home for the elderly in Fanling to the applause of 80 elderly residents.
Dressed in a light-blue check suit, a smiling Ms Liu walked up to one of the residents and shook hands before taking her seat.
Her audience at the Buddhist Po Ching Home for Aged Women laughed appreciatively when, as part of her speech, Ms Liu recited a poem that ran:
'You're still a small girl when you're 70 years old.
When you're 80, you remain hopeful.
You're full of smiles when you reach 90
And it's not a surprise to live to 100.'
She added: 'I hope that with good care of your health, you can strive to live to be a thousand.'
Ms Liu found time to extend her charm with some warm words for the reporters, photographers and cameramen assembled to record her visit, noting how early they had needed to arrive at the old people's home.
'Although I am only staying here for a very short time, I'm left with such a good impression everywhere,' she said.
