A martial arts film star of the 1970s appeared in court yesterday charged with assaulting a man in Causeway Bay in March.
Wong Chi-kuen, 49, better known as Wong Yu by martial arts movie fans, appeared before Principal Magistrate Ian Candy in Eastern Court for allegedly assaulting Cheng Lung-hon on March 26. He pleaded not guilty.
Co-defendant Esther Alexandra Helene de Bruyn, 35, was charged with assaulting Pang Chak-man on the same day.
Both alleged assaults took place near an exit of the Causeway Bay MTR station in Hennessy Road, near Jardine's Bazaar. She also pleaded not guilty. Both defendants were released on $200 bail to August 16.
Wong, whose occupation was listed as an artist, was neatly dressed in a dark suit and appeared at ease when he told Mr Candy he was considering hiring a lawyer to represent him.
De Bruyn, who was casually dressed in skirt and blouse and whose occupation was listed as a trader, was represented by a duty lawyer.
