M Dream Inworld

The mobile entertainment and software company has announced two new promotions following its formation last week by the merger of mobile software firms Inworld Group and M Dream Mobile Entertainment. 

Xu Hanjie,  chief executive of M Dream, has been named an executive director of the new company, while M Dream director Wong Kean  has been named a non-executive director. 
Mr Xu, 37, was the main co-founder of M Dream,  a director of M Dream China and general manager of M Dream Zone. 
He was previously chief executive of Zhejiang University Maikang Computer, and holds a master's degree in business administration from Zhejiang University. 
Mr Wong, 33, is  a director of M Dream China and M Dream Zone.  He is also  president and executive director of the Hong Kong-based Softbank Investment International, which he joined in 2002, and has been a director of PhilWeb since 2001.
He was previously  vice-president of hongkong.com, senior counsel for business development at chinadotcom, and an associate lawyer with Clifford Chance. Mr Wong has an MA in law from Cambridge University in Britain. 


Fujitsu

Fanny Chan has been hired to head marketing in Greater China for the enterprise technology firm. Ms Chan, who was hired in April, is Fujitsu's senior marketing director in the mainland and Hong Kong.

A 20-year industry veteran, Ms Chan was previously president of My3ia Technology,  a start-up that sells MP3 players and mobile content services. She was also president and chief executive  of My3ia subsidiary eDongDong,  a Chinese firm specialising in online payments. Before My3ia, she was  director of marketing, strategy and alliance for Hewlett-Packard's services group in China and Hong Kong. 

She was previously marketing director and general manager of the market department of Compaq greater China division, which she joined in 1999. Before that, she was a spokesman for IBM's e-commerce business in China. Ms Chan holds degrees in computer science and biochemistry from the University of Toronto, Canada.


Primeton Technologies

Liu Yadong,  chief executive of Shanghai software firm Primeton Technologies,  has been elected to head the newly formed middleware branch of the China Software Industry Association. A co-founder of the 30 member group, Mr Liu will be its deputy director-general.

The group was formed earlier this month  as a national industry group committed to middleware research, development and sales. It is also dedicated to developing industry standards and challenging the dominance of foreign middleware firms. 

Mr Liu, 43, is co-founder, chairman and chief executive  of Primeton Technologies. Prior to forming the firm, he was founder, executive vice-president and chief operating officer at Asiainfo Technologies  from 1995 to 1999. 

He has a doctorate in physics from the University of Maryland.

SMSC

Standard Microsystems Corp  (SMSC) has hired  Louis Lam  as vice-president and managing director of Asia Pacific sales.

He will be based in the International Finance Centre, where SMSC recently opened its first Hong Kong sales office. 

Before joining the fabless  semiconductor supplier, Mr Lam was area sales director for 3Com's Asia Pacific and Europe OEM Business. Before that, he was Asia sales and marketing director for Telecom Semiconductor Hong Kong, and also spent time with Bourns Asia Pacific and National Semiconductor.

He has an MBA from the University of East Asia in Macau, and an MSEE and BSEE from Southern Illinois University. 


Symantec

The computer security giant has promoted Michelle Amery  to vice-president for the Asia-Pacific region. In her last post with the firm, Ms Amery was based in the United States as vice-president of global sales planning and operations. 

From October 1998 to April 2001, she was vice-president of sales and marketing for Latin America.

Ms Amery will now be based in Symantec's Hong Kong office. Before taking up the Latin American post, she held  several positions in Asia Pacific, including general manager for Australia and New Zealand. 


Avaya

The networking equipment firm has hired Jocelyne Attal  as its chief marketing officer.

Ms Attal, 48, joins the company after leaving North American computer maker Gateway in March. A management reshuffle at the troubled firm had forced her from her position as executive vice-president after just seven months.

Before Gateway, Ms Attal was vice-president of marketing for WebSphere at IBM, which she joined in 1997, after working as vice-president and general manager for Novell in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, where she spent four years.

She has a master's degree in  business administration  from the Institut Superieur de Gestion in Paris.  


IGDA

The International Game Developers Association has appointed two new directors. Bob Bates, author of Game Design: The Art and Business of Creating Games and a longtime industry veteran, was elected to an open board seat. Also elected to the board, Brian Reynolds, president, Big Huge Games, will serve as the IGDA's secretary.
