Three students from Diocesan Girls' Junior School took top honours in an English essay-writing competition. Organised by the International Studies Services Centre, the contest was divided into three categories - primary, junior and senior secondary - and attracted almost 1,000 entries. It encouraged students to express their opinions on the education system and learning environment in Hong Kong. Diocesan student Jane Wong clinched the top prize in the primary school category, with schoolmates Terry Chow and Katie Chan Tsz-yan winning the merit awards. In the junior secondary school category, Lai Pui-shan from Buddhist Ma Kam Chan Memorial English Secondary School was the winner. Amy Yip Wing-yan of Ying Wa Girls' School came out on top in the senior secondary school division.
