Two policemen involved in the arrest of a school bullying suspect gave conflicting evidence yesterday.
Fanling Court was told that two policemen went to De La Salle Secondary School in Sheung Shui on December 3 to arrest Lam Hing-yuen, 16. Lam was charged with assaulting classmate Lau Sai-kit, 15, on November 28. The attack was captured on a digital camera.
The first policeman who gave evidence said he had briefly questioned Lam in the school library for three minutes while his colleague searched Lam's bag.
But the second policeman, when cross-examined by lawyers, denied that he or the first policeman had any conversation with Lam inside the school. Both denied having threatened or baited Lam to confess to taking part in the attacks.
Lam had told Magistrate Andrew Chan Hing-wai that the second policeman had threatened him. 'If I did not confess, they would beat me up until I did.'
Lam also said he had not been cautioned before being interviewed at the police station. He said a lot of answers on the interview evidence sheet came from the first policeman and not himself.
