Dubbed the 'dog slayer', the serial pet poisoner of Mid-Levels who has eluded capture for 15 years is back.

Police, dog owners, veterinarians and the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) yesterday confirmed the near-fatal poisoning of two dogs on Black's Link Path at about 5.30pm on Tuesday.

The serial offender, who could face life in prison if caught, is believed to have killed at least 20 dogs and injured up to 200 in the long-running and bizarre killing spree.

Brian Stewart and his wife, Victoria Kemp, both veterinarians, yesterday told how their pet labradors Harry and Sally fought off a 'horrific death' after eating chicken meat laced with poison.

'Five or 10 minutes longer without treatment and they would be dead,' said Dr Stewart, a horse veterinarian with the Hong Kong Jockey Club. 'Within 20 minutes they had collapsed and were suffering explosive diarrhoea, vomiting, muscle spasms and their bodies were so hot they were starting to cook internally.'

Both dogs were rushed to the Valley Veterinary Centre, where it was discovered they had eaten the chemical Carbofuran.
