Go to the dogs

Penny Hunter

Your pedigree Malamute has destroyed your favourite pair of Jimmy Choos, done a do-do on the Paul Smith rug and gnawed the legs of your great grandmother's Qing-dynasty wedding cabinet. Thanks Bi-Bi. What he needs is a good run around the park and maybe a little nose-to-tail time with some other four-legged associates. Help for your stir-crazy hound is at hand.

In a little-known corner of Sai Kung is a pooch playground specially designed for dogs of all shapes and sizes. The securely fenced Pet Adventure Field has ramps, tyres, hoops and metal drums over, through and around which your Labrador or Pomeranian can stretch its legs. There is also a covered sitting area where proud 'parents' can catch some shade while watching their furry friends socialise. On any given weekend, especially in the afternoon, you're bound to find fellow dog-lovers there, treating their pets - and occasionally their children (left) - to a little New Territories fresh air, grass and canine company, all free.

The park is part of the Lions Nature Education Centre and dog owners can also use the centre's car park for nothing. You'll find the playground on the left-hand side of Che Keng Tuk Road, about 150 metres after the turn-off from Hiram's Highway. Don't forget Bi-Bi's grooming kit and matching Louis Vuitton collar and lead - he'll want to look his best. Oh, and a doggy-do bag please.
