American singer-songwriter Ben Kweller's latest offering On My Way is a follow-up to his earlier acclaimed album Sha Sha. Kweller is like a younger version of Beck, but full of sunshine and energy. In On My Way, Kweller shows off his songwriting talents with melodic tunes and a charming voice. You won't find any fancy musical arrangements in On My Way. Rather, the basic rock guitar that dominates the whole album gives a raw and whimsical youthfulness. The album kicks off with I Need You Back, which opens with some bluesy guitars and develops into a fun pop-rock tune. The Rules is an energetic rock anthem while the guitar arrangements of Ann Disaster are very 1970s. Kweller is also good at slower songs. The title track On My Way is a sweet acoustic tune while Living Life's piano is reminiscent of Elton John. The album ends with Different but the Same, a beautiful piano-driven song. On My Way is probably one of the best buys in recent months.
