Windstruck is a film tailor-made for fans of Korean actress Jun Ji-hyun, who captured the hearts of Hong Kong teenagers with her role in My Sassy Girl. This time Jun plays a quick-tempered, sassy cop who is as endearing as she is bossy. One day she beats up and arrests a secondary school teacher (Jang Hyuk) after mistaking him for a thief. As in all pulp fiction, they fall in love and have some happy times before fate interferes. Written and directed by Kwak Jae-yong, Windstruck basically follows the same formula as My Sassy Girl by blending slapstick comedy, romance and sadness together in a simple love story. This formula will undoubtedly work again as My Sassy Girl was South Korea's highest-grossing romantic comedy of all time and was a massive hit in China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Apart from the silly story and some careless directing, the film has some moments that are quite touching. The scenes of Jun in the wind missing her boyfriend reminds me of a poem by Rabindranath Tagore, who wrote in The End: 'I shall become a delicate draught of air and caress you; and I shall be ripples in the water when you bathe, and kiss you and kiss you again.'
