Thrill seekers from around the world stormed the area yesterday with their relentless stamina.
Within four to eight hours, they ran through the trails of Coloane while finding their way with a map. After abseiling down boulders at Hac Sa beach, the teams of two strapped on life jackets and descended into the chilling South China Sea to swim against the current.
'We were swimming and swimming and the beach did not seem to get any closer,' laughed Adrian King of the winning team, who said he found the race course exciting and well designed.
King and his teammate Henrique Galvao were among the more than 300 competitors who tested their physical and mental endurance in Asia's largest adventure race this year. The race course was kept confidential until Saturday afternoon, giving minimal time for competitors to prepare.
King, 33, a advertising agency executive based in Hong Kong, and Galvao, 25, a veterinarian at the Macau Jockey Club, finished the race in 4:05:57.
The race participants came mostly from Hong Kong, where most adventure racers in Asia reside.
But about 60 arrived in Macau from foreign countries including the United States, Canada, South Africa, Switzerland and Germany.
