Acer's TravelMate 8000 is pushing the limit of an all-in-one laptop by packing plenty of features and top-shelf hardware in its ordinary silver-grey 3kg case.

The model we tested featured a 1.6 gigahertz Pentium M chip with Centrino technology supporting 802.11b/g Wi-fi and built-in Bluetooth. It has a basic 256 megabytes of DDR Ram, upgradeable to two gigabytes.

More impressively, this laptop has the strongest 3D graphics solution in its class, courtesy of an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics processor with 128MB of memory. The Radeon provides top-notch graphics performance and the ability to connect the latest display panels, including widescreen HDTV.

The display is a 15-inch screen with a 1,400x1,050 pixel resolution.

A fast 7,200rpm 60GB hard drive and a DVD+/- RW optical drive will satisfy all your burning needs.

This latest TravelMate features an array of ports that few other desktop replacements could manage without a docking station.

Considering the already reasonable price, the fact that you do not need to buy a bunch of peripherals to get the most from this machine makes a big difference. There are no hidden costs here. And the features come in a surprisingly slim case.
