Alex finds pretty blossom out of reach

Dino Mahoney

Alex, a handsome, sporty boy, joins the class and the girls go crazy. Alex is the 'Toy Boy' in the drama serial being broadcast on RTHK Radio 4 (FM 97.6), Songbirds. Tonight you can hear how Alex is receiving a lot of attention, especially from Jasmine, who is eagerly waiting to see if he will audition for the school play she is in. Alex has also been given a place on the school basketball team. Another girl, Jordan, is secretly in love with Alex and has her own idea of how to win him over.

Tune in tonight at 9.30pm for the third episode of Toy Boy.

Below is the first part of tonight's episode for you to read while you are listening to it.

Alex: I've just been playing basketball.

Jordan: Really?

Alex: We played for a long time ... I'm really thirsty.

Jordan: You must be.

Alex: I need a drink.

Jordan: There's a 7-Eleven on the corner.

Alex: I feel like sitting down and relaxing.

Jordan: I'd better go before the library closes.

Alex: I could wait for you and we could go for a drink together.

Jordan: I'm sorry, Alex, after I get my book, I have to go home and do my homework.

Alex: Maybe another time?

Jordan: That's possible ... later ... maybe ... Well, I'd better be getting along. Goodbye, Alex.

Alex: Goodbye, Jordan.

Jordan: (walking away from Alex) That was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do, but I thought it was for the best. Alex could have had any girl in the school. They were all there at his feet like little flowers waiting to be picked and calling up to him ... 'pick me, pick me, I'm yours, I'm yours'. Well, I wasn't going to be one of those little flowers at his feet waiting to be picked. I wanted to be a beautiful blossom flowering on the branch of a tree ... and when he reached up his hand to pick this pretty blossom, he would find that it was just out of reach.

Candy: Hey, Jasmine, is Alex going to audition for the school play?

Jasmine: I don't know. He said he'd think about it.

Candy: He'd be perfect.

Jasmine: I know why you want Alex to be in the play ... because I'm casting you as the deaf and dumb girl and Alex would be playing the role of the boy who falls in love with you.

Candy: That's not the reason I want Alex in the play, Jasmine. I just think he'd be very good. He'd look great ... and he's tall ... we don't want a short boy to play that role .. it always looks silly when a short boy plays the romantic part.

Jasmine: And there's a scene at the end of the play where he holds you in his arms and kisses you.

Candy: Is there?

Jasmine: You KNOW there is, Candy ... you've read the play, haven't you?

Candy: Yes, but I'd forgotten that part.

Jasmine: I'm sure you had, Candy.

Candy: By the way, how will we direct that part, Jasmine. I mean, as the director, will you ask us to actually kiss?

Jasmine: If you pay me, I will.

Candy: No, be serious, Jasmine.

Jasmine: I am being serious, Candy.

Candy: Will we have to kiss or pretend to kiss?

Jasmine: Stage kissing only, Candy. I don't think the headmistress would be too pleased if she saw you French-kissing Alex on stage in front of the whole school and all the parents.

Candy: What is stage kissing?

Jasmine: Well, stage kissing is when the actors put their heads to the side so the audience can't see them straight on and then they sort of press their faces against each other's cheeks. If the actors do it well, the audience can't tell the difference from real kissing.

Candy: Sounds as if that needs a lot of practice.

Jasmine: Candy, keep your hands off Alex, he's mine.
