Hongkong Post continues its outstanding record at the annual Distinguished Salesperson Awards (DSA), with employees this year scooping three prizes.
The winners - Poon Mei-yuk, Tang Yau-cheong and Pang Kei-tung - said communication skills and product knowledge were important elements in their success, as well as courtesy, a smiling face and a sincere, positive approach.
'These qualities help us to understand customer needs and thus help us make suitable recommendations regarding postal services,' said Mr Tang, who has worked as a postal officer for 16 years.
One example of how postal employees came to the rescue of a customer in great need of advice and direction occurred during last year's Sars outbreak, a time when many companies wanted to cut costs.
'A tutorial school wanted to send their advertisements by direct mail to some housing estates, but they did not know the names of their targeted customers,' Mr Tang said.
'Because I understood their requirements and the difficulties they faced, I was able to advise the school to use Hongkong Post's circular service to send their direct mail.
'By using this service, the school could send the messages direct to the targeted customers, and it could also save on postage costs. The customer accepted my suggestion and used the service.
