Taiwan does not have the military capacity to destroy the Three Gorges Dam as suggested in a recent report to the US Congress, a mainland general said yesterday. PLA Lieutenant-General Liu Yuan also said the US was 'a bitch pretending to be a gentleman'.
In its annual report to Congress on the mainland's military power, the Pentagon said last month that Taiwan should consider targeting the dam to deter the mainland from invading the island.
In a China Youth Daily commentary headlined 'The Three Gorges Dam is indestructible', General Liu said no country had conventional warheads capable of destroying the dam. Experts say it could withstand an earthquake measuring 10 on the Richter scale.
The US has bunker-buster bombs that can punch through six metres of reinforced concrete.
