J. Maskrey

Who? The crystal-studded skin jewellery designs of Hong Kong-born, London-based designer J. Maskrey have caught the eyes of celebrities such as Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez and Halle Berry. Introduced in 1999 as a skin jewellery label, the J. Maskrey brand now extends to women's

wear, menswear and an accessories range.

How did it happen? Raised in Hong Kong, Maskrey left her hometown and studied in Brisbane, Australia, before returning to Hong Kong to work as a professional make-up artist. Having worked in the SAR for several years the designer ventured to London where she took a make-up course and was inspired to create her skin-jewellery label in 1999.

What does the collection look like? Maskrey creates glamorous and striking clothes and skin jewellery that can range from the small and low-key to extravagant patterns that cover a torso provocatively. In the new collection vintage materials and child-like cartoons meet head on.

What does the designer have to say? 'The J. Maskrey aesthetic is casual glam and you can wear the evening pieces and trash it up with a pair of jeans and wear them during the day. My menswear range is very hip-hop inspired, nothing too camp and the details are all discreet.'
