TTI eyes world leadership in home improvement goods

Techtronic Industries (TTI) is a global leader in the design, manufacture and sale of home improvement products.

The company's products range from power tools and outdoor power equipment to floor care appliances, solar-powered lighting and electronic measuring products.

The company has strengthened its brand portfolio in recent years, establishing a major brand for each of its core divisions.

'Looking forward, we will continue to capitalise on our strong brands to offer better value products to our customers,' senior vice-president David Butts said, adding that future plans were to carry out its corporate mission to be innovative, to continuously improve products and services to exceed customer expectations and become the world's leading supplier of home improvement products.

The company is committed to innovation, continuous improvement of its products and services, and exceeding customer expectations. It aims to become the world's leading supplier of home improvement products.

'This [commitment] is shared by every level of the corporation,' Mr Butts said.

'TTI also firmly believes that strong leadership and teamwork are indispensable in achieving its mission. We emphasise mutual communication and interaction, and investment in human capital, which is vital for the group's continuous growth.'

Quality is the group's primary focus.

'As clearly stated by our quality statement, TTI aims to provide total customer satisfaction in terms of quality, delivery and cost through continuous improvement,' Mr Butts said.

'Since 1989 we have established the quality assurance department to drive our company-wide quality assurance system and standard. We aim to be proactive concerning quality, rather than reactive. The company was certified with ISO 9002 quality system by HKQAA [Hong Kong Quality Assurance Association] and BSI [British Standards Institution] in 1996 and further upgraded the system to ISO [International Organisation for Standardisation] 9001 in 1998.

'The implementation of Quality Management System ISO 9001:2000 strengthens TTI's product design, evaluation, testing and review to meet customer requirements and prevent quality problems at the production stage.

'To further improve our system, the company has implemented Total Quality Management since 1999.

'The implementation of TQM helps the group operate in a more efficient and effective manner.

'Our quality journey is aligned with our business development,' Mr Butts said.

'We believe there is no terminal in our quality journey and we will strive for continual improvement in our expansion path.'

TTI took part in the competition for the first time this year.

'We recognise the necessity of a fair assessment or benchmark against other companies operating in our industry, as well as our competitors in order to positively evaluate ourselves and determine our strengths and weaknesses,' Mr Butts said.

'In our team's relentless pursuit of excellence, an integral part of this success requires that we seek external sources for benchmarking to examine any possible weaknesses, so our organisation can successfully plan and implement strategies for continuous quality improvement.'

With a stated aim of becoming the global market leader in every one of its business categories, TTI plans to continue seeking constructive opportunities that challenge, motivate and inspire our team to be the best in our industry and in the world marketplace.

'The prestige of this competition and strength founded in our participants affords us the opportunity to compare ourselves with top companies in Hong Kong,' Mr Butts said.

'The recognition of this award promotes a higher associate morale, improved communication and co-operation between the management team and associates of TTI.

'Based on healthy competition, we can kindle our passion for improvement targets and focus on our mission to become the world's leading supplier of home improvement products.'

The group has a very focused business and expansion strategy.

'We also have [a] clearly defined corporate mission and quality policy, so that every level of the corporation could contribute to the full implementation,' Mr Butts said.

'The results of which are clearly reflected in our business results, our success in the global branding strategy, and our long-term partnership with our customers and suppliers.'
