Katherine Noelle Holmes discovered her passion in the performing arts while in high school. She acted in theatre productions before meeting a talent manager (in 1995 at a modelling convention in New York City) who encouraged her to go to Los Angeles. On her second day after arriving there, she met Taiwan-born director Ang Lee and won a part in The Ice Storm. Playing opposite her mother, she created audition tapes made in her basement for television series Dawson's Creek. Her performance was so impressive that the producers were willing to postpone her in-person audition until a school production she was starring in came to an end. The success of the television series made her the star she is today.
