Social worker Tse Lai-man is ready to take up the mission to save more young people and families with problems outside Hong Kong.
Currently working at the Glorious Lights Neighbourhood Centre in Ho Man Tin's Oi Man Estate, Tse has been sharing her experience with other families. But her ultimate goal is to become a missionary and help people around the world.
With the help of friends, she released an album two years ago with songs she wrote about parenting and harmony within the family. One of the songs, Pa Pa, was about her relationship with her father.
Tse's childhood and teenage years were a nightmare. She, her mother and younger brother were frequently abused by her violent father. Brought up in such a violent environment, she said that she had little hope for her future.
'He [my father] was brought up being beaten a lot by my grandparents. So he thought it was the right way to raise his kids,' said the 27-year-old. 'I was living in fear. I was even more frightened when he hit my mother than when he hit me. They are both closest to me and I couldn't figure out why things had to be like that.
'And after a while, my brother and I got used to it. But we did not have any hopes for our lives and future.
'We believed we were only there waiting to die.'
