Sports memorabilia ranging from a boxing glove autographed by Muhammad Ali to David Beckham's Real Madrid shirt and a cricket bat signed by Sir Donald Bradman went under the hammer last night at an auction organised by the Australian Chamber of Commerce.
The sale, presided over by former Australian Rules football player Robert Dipierdomenico, saw the fiercest bidding for Bradman's bat, which went for $47,000.
Ali's glove, however, was a comparative snip at $15,000.
The Beckham shirt went for the same sum - it was not clear whether bidding was down following his glaring penalty miss for England against Portugal on Thursday.
A bat belonging to Indian cricket star Sachin Tendulkar went for just $5,500, while signed photos of Formula One champion Michael Schumacher fetched $4,000.
Dipierdomenico, or Dipper as he is known, regaled the mostly expatriate crowd with tales not only from the field but the changing rooms, team plane and a place all too familiar to most AFL players - the hospital emergency ward.
