A unique opportunity for an imaginative individual with a flair for managing has come up at a Hong Kong theme park. Well known for its balance of recreation, education and conservation and the proud owner of one of the region's largest and most dazzling aquaria, the Ocean Park Corporation is seeking an events and entertainment manager. 'He or she will have to create, conceptualise and develop new shows and special events for the park,' said human resources officer Ruby Yum. In particular, the candidate will create the many and varied shows and events taking place at Ocean Park throughout the year - from Halloween to New Year. Duties will also include overseeing the operations of the department's 30 full-time staff, including clowns, performers, technicians and show producers. The events and entertainment manager will also develop operating policies and procedures for the department and manage its budget. The position was exciting and enjoyable, said Ms Yum. 'You need lots of creativity. You meet different kinds of people ... and have the chance to travel around and see different shows or events in other parks in other countries.' In order to fit the bill, applicants should have a creative personality, balanced by a good business sense, lateral thinking and the ability to manage both people and resources. They must have at least eight years' experience in staging shows, concerts and other entertainment events, and at least three years of management experience.
