Eighty jobs are up for grabs at a brand-name bank with branches in 55 countries.

In business for more than 150 years, Standard Chartered Bank Hong Kong is a major player in the Hong Kong banking scene.

Also particularly strong in Africa, the Middle East, India, Singapore and Malaysia,  the bank is  going from strength to strength in the mainland, Indonesia and Taiwan.

Standard Chartered needs business financial managers to join the department of the same name.

'As part of our expansion plan, [we want to] to beef up our presence and market in small and medium-sized enterprises,' explained Adam Wong,  general manager of business financial services.

The roles are destined for two distinct groups involved in either business development or servicing and managing existing customers.

'Those involved in acquiring new customers will look at the market and see where we can serve [them] better in the chosen sector,' Mr Wong said.

He likens this role to 'the hunt'.

'If you're in a sales job and working with people, you're able to have the satisfaction of closing the deal.'

Who fits the bill? 'We are looking for people with a sales background who have dealt with corporates before.'

But candidates do not have to be bankers, as drive and enthusiasm outweigh industry experience.

'It's not an issue, as we tend to train them up.'

In addition, people who are 'very outgoing' and enjoy mixing with others  are likely to come up trumps.

The second role will see candidates ensuring that business with Standard Chartered's customers is well-oiled - and that their requirements are being met.

Those involved in relationship servicing need good interpersonal skills to deal with customers, and should ideally come with corporate lending experience.

Team players are also essential. 'We're not looking for mavericks,' said Mr Wong.

'They must be able to sense the customer's needs.'

As Standard Chartered's business was growing and it offered a wide spectrum of roles, 'there's always room for career expansion,' he added.

'Staff can move horizontally within business financial services or move to other parts of the bank.'
