I WOULD like to thank the police officer in charge of the Tuen Mun Highway for posting policemen on each side of the Tuen Mun Highway during rush hours to monitor the traffic flow there.
I have to say that their presence really helps as the heavy lorries and container trucks are a lot more law-abiding as they are now using the left-most lanes more.
Although this makes the situation a little better, the fundamental causes have yet to be tackled.
There are still too many vehicles using the highway; too many people living in Tuen Mun and Yuen Long; very narrow roads; too many heavy lorries and container trucks occupying the middle lanes most of the time and driving at very high speed (about 100 kilometres per hour) and, last but not least, too many illegal containers parked along the Castle Peak Road.
I think it is very irresponsible of the Hong Kong Government to, on one hand encourage people to move to Tuen Mun and Yuen Long, and on the other, fail to do its best to improve traffic congestion there.
