A construction worker accused of calling the Department of Justice threatening to kill Secretary for Justice Elsie Leung Oi-sie has been remanded in custody until July 12, as the court awaits psychiatric reports. Kong Sai-kit, 27, was charged with criminal intimidation at the Eastern Court yesterday. He did not enter a plea but said he understood the charge. The court was told that between June 16 and 21, Kong allegedly called receptionist Ng Ching-ching at the Department of Justice and threatened to use a glass bottle to hit Miss Leung and a bomb to kill her. A police report was made and after Kong was arrested, officers found from his phone records that he had made calls to several government departments. The prosecution suggested the court ask for two psychiatrists' reports to better understand the defendant's mental condition. However, Kong told Acting Principal Magistrate David Thomas that he was 'normal' and psychiatry reports would be unnecessary. But Kong's bail request was refused.
