One of the central government's main mouthpieces is making new inroads into Hong Kong, after winning a contract to provide sports-related video content for captive passengers on Kowloon Motor Bus (KMB) routes.
The Xinhua News Agency will provide footage and assist RoadShow - KMB's outdoor advertising agent - in the production of television shows featuring Chinese sporting history, this summer's Athens Olympic Games and preparations for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Xinhua has supplied historical and cultural programming to RoadShow since the beginning of this year.
Sample content aired at a press conference yesterday mixed sport and politics, with one feature detailing how the mainland fought for many years to wrest from Taiwan the right to represent the Chinese nation on the International Olympic Committee - a privilege enjoyed by the island until 1979.
Taiwan now participates in the Olympics as 'Chinese Taipei'.
'We hope to provide a variety of content by bringing in new partners to our operation,' RoadShow managing director Winnie Ng said.
