Legco investigation expected to point finger of blame for virus that killed 299
Families of Sars victims will be seeking an end to their nightmares when the Legislative Council report into the outbreak is released this afternoon.
They want top health officials to take responsibility for last year's outbreak, which killed 299 people, and they want answers to why their loved ones contracted the disease and died.
Yvonne Yik Yee-fong has been searching for answers to these questions after her only son died in April last year.
Ho Wang-tat was a computer programmer who worked from his flat in Amoy Gardens, where the virus struck 329 people. He was 28 when he died a month after contracting Sars.
'Sars came from nowhere and took my son away,' Ms Yik said. 'I still don't know what happened. All he did was sit at home, and death came to him ... I hope the report will give me some reasonable explanations and won't blame everything on fate.'
The 400-page report will be released this afternoon and printed copies will be available for sale to the public for $320.
