Hong Kong banking chiefs yesterday hailed improved security features as they unveiled new $20, $50 and $1,000 banknotes.
'We need to make sure we keep ahead of counterfeiters,' said Hong Kong Monetary Authority deputy chief executive William Ryback.
'The new Hong Kong banknotes contain improved and standardised security features. This will make the notes more difficult to counterfeit.'
The new notes, due to be circulated from October, include a holographic thread, iridescent images of the bauhinia flower and a barcode visible under ultraviolet light.
'Like the new $100 and $500 notes issued last year, the ... notes have all managed to combine the need for security with excellent designs,' Mr Ryback said.
Other new features include a denomination numeral which changes colour between gold and green when viewed from different angles.
This is in addition to existing measures including highlighted watermarks, a security thread and invisible fluorescent fibres.
