Hong Kong manufacturers are moving upmarket by using more advanced technology to produce innovative designs and better quality cookware and kitchenware.

Metal cookware and kitchenware are becoming increasingly popular as manufacturers move into the ODM (original design manufacturing) segment, even creating their own brands.

Producers of metal cookware and kitchenware provide a wide range of products, including saucepans, casserole dishes, frying pans and steamers. Stainless steel is the material of choice for its its hard-wearing nature, but aluminium items are also available, as are pots and pans with porcelain enamel exteriors and non-stick coating.

'Stainless steel is very popular,' said Gary Chan, sales manager at Citilin International Trading. 'Uunfortunately manufacturers are facing increasing costs but customers like its durability. Citilin produces plastic utensils and porcelainware alongside its stainless steel cookware. We export worldwide, but focus on various European countries.'

Less well known than stainless steel in the kitchen is silicone, but Silicone Zone International is determined to change that.

The four-year-old company has been working hard to gain recognition for silicone bakeware - and that includes educating customers on its benefits, which founder Ken Yeung describes as flexibility, durability and non-stick.
