Piano prodigy still grand

Flora Wu

She started crawling on the piano when she was two and with adequate practice, she crawled her way to Carnegie Hall in 1996. For more than 25 years, Cristina Ortiz has performed classical piano pieces as well as music characteristic of her Brazilian heritage. Last in Hong Kong more than 10 years ago, Ortiz said the hustle and bustle of our city reminds her of Rio de Janeiro. (Really?) 'Hong Kong has a very nice audience,' she says. 'They are very keen and it is always wonderful to work with them.'

She will be performing Mendelssohn: Piano Concerto No1 and Schulhoff's Concerto for Piano and Small Orchestra. One concert only, tomorrow at 8pm at City Hall. Tickets are $100-$250. Call 2836 3336 for more information.
