A guard at Stanley Prison slipped drugs, betting reports and noodles into the maximum security institution, according to the ICAC.
Mak Wing-wa, 38, an assistant officer in the Correctional Services Department, appeared in Eastern Court yesterday to face five charges - conspiracy for a public servant to accept advantages, conspiracy to traffic in a dangerous drug, trafficking in a dangerous drug and two counts of introducing an unauthorised article into prison.
An unemployed man, Chan Yee-la, 34, was also charged with conspiracy to traffic in dangerous drugs and introducing an unauthorised article into prison.
Chan was an inmate of Stanley at the time of the offences.
No pleas were taken yesterday. The case has been adjourned until July 29.
Acting Principal Magistrate David Thomas granted bail to the two defendants.The ICAC alleged Mak conspired with Chan to introduce unauthorised items into Stanley Prison and assisted Chan in horse betting between June last year and January this year.
