FIRST-SEASON jockey Dean McKeown can get off the mark in Hong Kong via Fortune Ride (Nap) in this afternoon's final event.
It is peculiar how the day's best bet seems to be in the last race, so play carefully in the events which precede it so that you have enough dollars left to back this English import from last season.
Fortune Ride has already run once this season and the bare form of his effort behind Courageous is not too encouraging.
But he appeared not to go for his apprentice rider that day and that was also the conclusion of the race-meeting stewards.
Afterwards trainer Tony P.H. Chan stated that Fortune Ride needed a stronger jockey. Chan has also put some pretty serious work into his charge, taking the trouble to let McKeown, who looks like a real trier, partner Fortune Ride in his work.
On his gallops this week, it has looked as if Fortune Ride is very nearly in peak condition. The 1,800 metres could well prove to be his ideal distance and he is favoured by the draw.
