Jazz guitarist Eugene Pao's latest album Naked Time is a musical tour de force full of surprises and imagination. The album, which features Pao as well as six other musicians including pianist Ted Lo, contains nine instrumental tracks. The tunes - mostly penned by Pao - are catchy and well orchestrated. In fact, this album is as good as music gets. Just listen to the nine-minute title track to understand why Pao is acclaimed as one of the best guitarists in Hong Kong. From a tranquil opening, the song gradually progresses to an emotional climax, and Pao's interpretation of the tune flows naturally along. Another personal favourite is What Now composed by Lam Man-yee. Lo demonstrates the beauty of the piano with his touching performance of the heart-wrenching melody. Perhaps the strength of this album lies in its ability to evoke our emotions. Naked Time is more than an album for listening. It is a musical journey to explore and experience.
