Mainland weather authorities have put large parts of the country on alert for flooding, landslides and strong winds.
Central Meteorological Observatory senior engineer Yang Keming said storms were expected yesterday and today in Beijing and more than a dozen provinces.
The prospect of more bad weather has added to the pressures on some provinces inundated by heavy downpours last week.
On Saturday, rain and hail struck the Shaanxi counties of Suide and Xingping, killing two people and damaging about 7,000 hectares of farmland. Economic losses were calculated at more than 16.5 million yuan.
A day earlier, three large oil tanks were washed away by torrents of water in Chongqing's mountainous Kai county. There were fears the oil containers could explode if they struck a bridge or a dam wall.
One of the tanks was salvaged and the local government was confident the other two were not washed into the Yangtze River.
