The Save Kai Tak Campaign has received a huge boost from the endorsement by Federation Aeronautique Internationale (The World Air Sports Federation or FAI). FAI secretary general Max Bishop says in the letter to campaign chairman Francis Chin that it would be an act of short-sighted expediency, with unforeseen negative consequences for the people of Hong Kong if Kai Tak airport was to be closed to all air traffic. He also said it would mean the loss of an ideal training ground for pilots and a large piece of recreational land for the public. The letter came before a second round meeting of Mr Chin and his fellow campaigners with government officials next month. The campaign is to push for preserving the southeast runway of the old airport and turning it into a centre of aviation and water sports.
