59 convictions for polluting recorded

Updated at 5.47pm: Fifty-nine convictions were recorded in June for breaches of anti-pollution legislation, the Environmental Protection Department said on Tuesday.

Twenty-nine of the convictions were under the Air Pollution Control Ordinance, 15 under the Waste Disposal Ordinance, 13 under the Noise Control Ordinance and two were under the Water Pollution Control Ordinance.

The heaviest fine in June was $40,000 for a company that used mechanical equipment without a valid construction noise permit.
