Organisers of China's 10th national games to be held next March, yesterday kicked off their promotional tour in Hong Kong in the hope of attracting international attention and foreign sponsorship.
The preparatory committee for the games, to be held in different parts of Jiangsu province, said it was hoping to raise $430 million yuan. About $50 million yuan has been raised so far.
It hopes to recruit companies to be designated service or product providers and sell broadcasting rights to television stations.
The provincial and municipal governments have already invested $10 billion yuan in facilities. About 20,000 athletes are expected to participate in about 380 events.
Kong Qingpeng, deputy secretary-general of the committee, said they were working hard to market the event to potential sponsors.
'We chose Hong Kong as a first stop because it is a famous economic city and we would like to attract more international attention here,' he said. 'We also aim to attract sponsorship from foreign companies based in Hong Kong.'
