New York-listed Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide, the world's biggest hotel owner, has won a contract to manage one of the two five-star hotels above Kowloon Station.

The 383-room hotel will take the banner of the chic, boutique-style W Hotel when it opens in early 2008.

It is the latest upscale hotel to arrive in Hong Kong, after the six-star 1,000-room Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong and Four Seasons Suites towering above Hong Kong Station on the opposite side of Victoria Harbour. The Four Seasons is due for completion later this year.

The Kowloon Station hotel properties are owned and developed by Sun Hung Kai Properties, which joined forces with Henderson Land in developing the Four Seasons projects.

Sun Hung Kai and Starwood recently signed a contract that will see Starwood bring W Hotel to Hong Kong, the second hotel property in the city under its management in addition to the Sheraton Hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Catering to business and leisure travellers, the W Hotel would feature a roof-top bar, spa, health club, indoor and outdoor pools and conference facilities, a Starwood spokeswoman said yesterday.
