The Ministry of Commerce will continue to support development of China's software industry and provide the necessary 'policy environment' to enable mainland software producers to compete abroad, Minister Bo Xilai said yesterday.
Mr Bo said China's software industry grew seven-fold in five years and last year's export volume reached US$2 billion.
'From now on, the Ministry of Commerce will work with other departments to create more favourable conditions for an accelerated development of China's software industry,' he said at a software trade fair in Dalian .
Vice-minister of Commerce Wei Jianguo said software producers 'can achieve a breakthrough' by initially subcontracting for foreign firms.
Xinhua projected that China's software exports could reach US$5 billion this year.
